Hip Hop Royalty, Heavy D passes away at only 44

Hip Hop legend and all round cool guy, Heavy D has sadly passed away at the very young age of 44. Heavy, real name Dwight Arrington Myers, was born in Jamaica on May 24th 1967 and his family moved to Mount Vernon New York when he was a child. He went on to become leader of Heavy D & the Boyz, who were the first group signed to Uptown Records. The group went on to have commercial hits around the world including, “Mr Big Stuff”, “Now That We Found Love ft Aaron Hall” and of course “Gyrlz, They Love Me”.

The New York based rapper was widely respected by his fellow peers and he had a well respected career. Respected enough to work with some of the greats including Michael Jackson on the track Jam and also Janet Jackson’s hit single Alright. It was not all about his rapping and musical stage presence, the Heavy D & the Boyz lead singer was also an established actor who starred in the films “Life” and “Big Trouble” he also had a recent cameo appearance in the film “Tower Heist” which stars Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy. But I'm sure he will be mostly remembered for his role in the sitcom “A Different World”.

His Final Performance came in October 2011, when he performed at the BET Hip Hop awards, this was his first performance in some 15 years and sadly his last.

RIP Dwight Arrington Myers aka Heavy D
