Today marks the 71st Birthday of LA born singer, musician and all round master of soul music Roy Ayers.
Roy has mastered them all from Soul to Jazz to Funk to House and he has even written film scores, the 1973 movie Coffy, which starred Pam Grier. Not satisfied at being a musician, Roy has also produced for others including Sylvia Striplin, "Give Me Your Love" and RAMP.
His venture into the House music scene has seen him collaborate with The Masters at Work, Kerri Chandler and most recently he has worked with Soulful House legends Bah Samba.
Currently, there is a documentary in progress called the Roy Ayers Project featuring Roy Ayers, as well as many Hip Hop producers who have sampled his music and other people who have been influenced by him and his music. The documentary is planned to be released in early 2012.
